Interior rooms. Lower levels. Cubicle "farms." Bull pens...
These common areas often have a 'cave' feeling with little, if any, access to a view of the sky. The Arcli makes these areas feel more open and comfortable. It gives the area a feeling of open space and the experience of moving through the day.
Like the sun in the sky, noon is different than morning. Evening is different than night. The ARCLI provides a sense of the time of day. There are no digits, numbers, hands, or sounds to mark the time. The space looks different. The ARCLI changes how it looks throughout the day, but every day is the same cycle.
Installing the Arcli is a small but significant way to demonstrate to all team members they deserve a bright comfortable space, too.
Happier or more comforted? ..."Doesn't matter, we keep it on. It has become part of the day."
Happier.
Gray days can stay outside. Inside, light the same color of daylight feeds the feeling that the bright sun is inevitable. The area illuminated is large and indirect. That space where the wall meets the ceiling is no longer where shadows and storm clouds lurk. More ambient, less glare, fewer shadows.
Comfort. Rhythm of the day.
Every day the same thing, at the same time. Now there is more than just on and off. Early birds and dawdlers will see the light completely off before and after the ambient is on. When the ambient is on there are times before and after the bright spot arrives or leaves. And when the ‘sun’ is traveling across the sky, hunger pangs can be ignored because the bright spot is not in the middle yet…but it will be.
Comfort. Boundaries.
For those who “play to the bell” or lock-on to a project and won’t let go until after all creativity and accuracy is long gone (I read about this person), the rhythm of the light adds another layer to clocks and alarms and suggests it is time to transition.
If the only room available for your home office is in the basement, you can make it feel like a room with windows.
The ARCLI will fill your peripheral vision with soft light like the sky above the horizon. More light in the room, fewer shadows. The fixture does not move, but its light pattern changes. Throughout the day, the light is slightly different, like the suns' light changes as it moves through the sky. Morning will look and feel different than noon or afternoon. Every day.
The Arcli was designed to enhance the experience of the space in a very subtle and subconscious way. It is experiential lighting providing both ambient and accent light. The effect is not obvious. The people in the room will experience the space differently with the Arcli. It will feel larger, more lively and they will experience the progress of the day through the changes in intensity and shape of the light.
The occupants field of vision will contain a horizon like outdoor open spaces. Lighter above, darker below. To produce this affect, the Arcli is physically long and thin.
Then, during the day, the intensity of a section of the the Arcli becomes brighter than the other sections. This "ball of light" moves slowly across the Arcli's horizon. Like the sun, it takes most of the day to move from one side to the other. At any time, look at the 'sky' and know what time it is.
Place the Arcli along a southern wall and give a consistency between interior and exterior spaces.
Owners set when the day starts and ends. They choose when the "ball of light" moves. They set the ambient level and the intensity of the bright section.
If you are in the lighting industry, the ACRLI will not fit into common conversations. The ARCLI is a lighting experience. It is a daily rhythm. It looks like the horizon most of us see every day. It mimics the arc of the sun. Focusing on the ARCLI's wattage or efficacy misses the point. It would be like focusing on the vitamin content of a slice of deep dish pizza. It has vitamins, but not the point.
Start a new conversation.
Installing the ARCLI is like adding a window.
A window has a large surface area and is visually bright on a vertical surface. The ARCLI shines on a large surface area and is visually bright on a vertical surface. Like a window, the light changes throughout the day. Unlike a window, it is never cloudy or dreary.
The ARCLI mounted twelve inches from the wall and ceiling will brighten an area as large as a 60 x 60 inch window. Occupants can adjust the brightness of the ARCLI to give the wall and ceiling a similar intensity as looking out the window at the sky (not at the sun). It can be easily set to be brighter than a cloudy day and not as bright as a sunny day.
It takes a surprisingly small amount of energy. An actual window can heat the room. The ARCLI uses typically only 100 to 130 watts.
